BACKGROUND ANCIENT PAST
Long ago, before its name was forgotten. The land surrounding the lost city was an Oasis in the desert. A group of pilgrims from the Bull Barbarians of The Frozen North decided to make this place their new home and settled here. Over many years the Arctic humans began to grow brighter in skin tone and lose their hair, gradually losing thickness until there wasn't any more. Over the years the people suffered harsh desert conditions combined with natural disasters and raids from hostile species many times barely avoiding extinction, the people began to refer to themselves as the Asherati which means "of the Ashes."
The Asherati developed complex social and religious systems, built great pyramids, and immigrated far and wide across the world.
BACKGROUND THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO
The Head Priest Ra-men grew jealous of the ruling Pharaoh. He amassed many followers, living and undead and cast a terrible spell upon the landscape. A Gigantic Red Sun appeared and made the brutal conditions of the desert even worse, setting the desert in flames, and melting the remaining oases. Ra-men's enemies, weakened were attacked by a large force of undead accumulated from the city's ancient tombs. Ra-men slew the Pharaoh, and crowned himself ruler over the Asherati.
After several years of acquiring sufficient magical and martial power, Ra-men grew tired of the tediums of day to day rulership, and sought to summon a powerful Psionic Being, to better control his people, the Elder Evil Zargon. Ra-men performed the rites, as well as the necessary wards to prevent Zargon's escape from the bottom of the Lost City. However, Ra-men found his magic insufficient to control Zargon and quickly regretted his naive zeal. However, Ra-men quick to minimize a loss, made an arrangement with Zargon, Zargon would have dominion over The Lost City and was informed of all its hidden passageways and secrets, and in return Ra-men was given part of Zargon's essence, a raw bit of his power, able to infect and strengthen those given it.
Zargon slowly began to take hold over The Lost City, enticing some in a dream-like state while in others eliciting obedience from fear. All denizens suffered the infestation of Zargon, growing tentacles across their body and newfound psionic abilities, but at a price of sanity. Zargon's appetite was great, demanding daily feedings. As the Asherati lost reserves of common food, they had to sacrifice intelligent beings to satiate his hunger, first of outsiders and finally of their own kind. Over time most Asherati began to lose their identities, forgetting who they were, their history, or their own ambitions. The Asherati who did cling on to the past traditions became divided into how best to accomplish the task, and thus the Triune deities of Aurifar, Solanil, and Zosef became divided into their own cults.
