The Great Dragon Purge
Description:
During the Year of the Long Shadows(3000+ years ago), a guild of Dragon Slayers nearly wiped out all of dragon kind. They were able to exploit a weakness of the dragons, which has since been forgotten.
Direct intervention of the Trifecta of dragon gods (Io, Tiamat, and Bahamut) prevented the extinction of the race, but dragons are still rare in the world as a whole.
