Alternate Form (Su):
A phoenix can take the form of a small or medium humanoid as a full-round action. When in humanoid form the phoenix looses its
flight speed and natural attacks, and gains a 30ft movement speed. Other physical statistics (such as natural armor, ability scores, etc) are unchanged. Any
equipment worn by the phoenix while in humanoid form melds into its true form when it changes back. While melded, armor and shield bonuses gained
from worn armor and shields cease functioning, as do the benefits from magic weapons, wands, or similar items; however the phoenix retains any
deflection, resistance, luck, sacred, profane, or insight bonuses, as well as armor and shield bonuses not derived from actual armor (such as from bracers of
armor, or a ring of shielding). This ability grants a +4 bonus on disguise checks to appear to be a specific humanoid race (resulting in a net +2 after the -2
penalty for imitating a different race).
Once every 10 rounds, a phoenix may unleash a powerful shriek which can daze and confuse opponents, slowing their reflexes and reactions.
All opponents within 30ft must make a Will save or become slowed for 1 round. The DC is 10 + 1/2 HD + Cha modifier. This is a sonic mind-influencing
Defensive Aura (Su):
As a phoenix grows it encases itself it a magic barrier that is continually active and grows with the phoenix's experiences. At 4th,
8th, 12th, 16th, and 20th level the phoenix gains a +1 deflection bonus to its armor class, increasing each time, and reaching +5 at 20th level. Additionally,
each time the phoenix gains an increased deflection bonus, it increases its natural armor by the same amount (reaching +6 at 20th level).
The bonus natural armor is an Extraordinary ability.
Extend Sp. Ability (Ex):
At 6th level, once per day a phoenix may choose to apply the effects of the Extend Spell metamagic feat to one of her spell-like
abilities. Doing so increases the spell-like ability to a full-round action. A phoenix gains an additional use of this ability at 10th, 14th, and 18th level.
Empower Sp. Ability (Ex):
At 10th level, once per day a phoenix may choose to apply the effects of the Empower Spell metamagic feat to one of her
spell-like abilities. Doing so increases the spell-like ability to a full-round action. A phoenix gains an additional use of this ability at 14th, and 18th level.
Enlarge Sp. Ability (Ex):
At 14th level, once per day a phoenix may choose to apply the effects of the Enlarge Spell metamagic feat to one of her spell-
like abilities. Doing so increases the spell-like ability to a full-round action. A phoenix gains an additional use of this ability at 18th level.
Maximize Sp. Ability (Ex):
At 16th level, once per day a phoenix may choose to apply the effects of the Maximize Spell metamagic feat to one of her
spell-like abilities. Doing so increases the spell-like ability to a full-round action. A phoenix gains an additional use of this ability at 20th level.
Size Increase (Ex):
At 6th and 12th level, a phoenix increases its size category by one step; first from Small to Medium, then Medium to Large. Each time
the phoenix gains a +4 bonus to its Strength score, and a +2 bonus to its Constitution score, and increases its fly speed by +50ft feet; and also increases the
damage of its natural weapons by one step. When a phoenix reaches large size, its Manueverability drops to Average from Good. Additionally, a phoenix of
large size has a 10ft space and a 5ft reach. Finally, a Medium phoenix has DR 5/magic and SR 5 + HD, while a Large phoenix has DR 10/Magic and SR 10
Perfect phoenix (Ex):
At 20th level, a phoenix gains its most powerful abilities as described below.
As a full-round action, a phoenix may immolate itself; creating a burst of fire in a 15ft radius centered on itself, that is 20ft
high. Creatures and objects caught within the immolation take 1d6 fire and 1d6 divine damage per HD of the phoenix, and receive a Reflex
saving throw for half. The DC is 10 + 1/2 HD + Con modifier. Additionally, this consumes the phoenix in a roaring fire, only for the phoenix to
emerge from the fire on the following round at full health (no damage, status conditions, or aging penalties or conditions).
Planar Travel (Su):
A phoenix may enter an exit the Astral Plane or the Ethereal Plane at will and navigate through these planes without error
or risk. Going from one plane to another is a full-round action.
Spell Resistance (Su):
A phoenix has SR equal to 15 + HD (35 at 20HD).
Damage Reduction (Ex):
A phoenix has DR 15/Epic.
Spell-like Abilities (Sp):
A phoenix has access to a number of spell-like abilities based on their HD. As a phoenix advances in level, it gains more and
more spell-like abilities, and its spell-like abilities become increasingly easier for it to use. phoenix spell-like abilities are organized into different Ranks,
which determines when they gain access to them, and how often they can use them. When a phoenix gains a new Rank of Sp. Abilities, it may use each of
them 1/day. At each additional rank, the phoenix gains an additional use of spell-like abilities of all lesser ranks; with ranks that would be usable 3 or more
times a day becoming At-will spell-like abilities instead.
Rank 0 - Detect evil, detect magic, dancing lights
Rank 1 - Colorspray, cure light wounds, protection from evil, bless, burning hands, greater magic fang
Rank 2 - Blindness/deafness, blur, invisibility, produce flame, summon nature's ally II (fire elementals only)
Rank 3 - Cure moderate wounds, magic circle against evil, resist energy (fire only), remove fear
Rank 4 - See invisibility, neutralize poison, remove curse, scorching ray, protection from energy (fire only)
Rank 5 - Cure serious wounds, find traps, fireball, firebolt (as lightning bolt but fire damage)
Rank 6 - Flamestrike, cone of fire (as cone of cold but fire damage), reincarnate, wall of fire, cure critical wounds
Rank 7 - Fire-seeds (no acorns or berries required), polymorph self, summon nature's ally V (fire elementals only)
Rank 8 - Fire Shield, Incendiary Cloud, firestorm, heal
Rank 9 - Meteor swarm, resurrection, summon nature's ally IX (fire elementals only)
