Prerequisites: Covering Defense, Shield Focus
Benefits: When your character makes a total defense action, Covering Defense will also grant half your characters total shield bonus to AC as cover bonus to reflex for an adjacent ally your size or smaller. This bonus lasts until the beginning of your characters next turn.
I'd like some thoughts and opinions on if the prerequisites are too simple or just right. Also…i've calculated out how the bonus's would go for someone using two-shield fighting and the shield focus tree feats, as well as the shield specialization feat from PHB2.
x2 heavy steel shield +5
shield focus and greater shield focus
Shield Specialization (players handbook 2 D&D 3.5)
As worded and intended, the shield focus feats grant a bonus of +1 to any shield used, so greater shield bonus means each shield wielded is at +4 instead of +2 base. This grows further when using shield specialization from players handbook 2 to +1, so each shield acts as +5 base. Two-shield fighting makes +5 enhancement bonus apply, while the other shields bonus only applies a +1 for +6.
5+5=10
10+6=16
While using covering defense, you're granting a +16 to AC as cover bonus in general, and with the custom feat i've suggested, it would be +8 reflex to adjacent allies WHILE using the total defense action.
I wanted to get some discussion of the idea before I know if this feat is allowable. Considering this will also help my character, gram xolstehn, cover up the weakness of AoO effects with his technique. This
