Abilities
Spellcasting: At each level except 1st and 6th, the Ebon Phoenix Mage gains new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if they had also gained a level in an arcane spellcasting class to which they belonged before adding the prestige class level. They do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If they had more than one arcane spellcasting class before becoming an Ebon Phoenix Mage, they must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining spells per day, caster level, and spells known.

Maneuvers: At each odd-numbered level, the Ebon Phoenix Mage gains a new maneuver known from the Shadow Hand, Diamond Mind, and Arctic Wind disciplines. They must meet a maneuver's prerequisite to learn it.You add your full Ebon Phoenix Mage levels to your initiator level to determine your total initiator level and your highest-level maneuvers known.

At 3rd, 6th, and 9th level, they gain an additional maneuver readied per day.

Stances Known: At 5th level, the Ebon Phoenix Mage learns a new martial stance from the Shadow Hand, Diamond Mind, and Arctic Wind disciplines. They must meet a stance's prerequisite to learn it.

Arcane Wrath (Su): The Ebon Phoenix Mage can spontaneously channel stored spell energy (prepared spells or spell slots) into their melee attacks. As a swift action, they can lose any prepared arcane spell or spell slot to gain a +4 bonus on a single attack or martial strike, as well as an extra 1d10 points of damage per spell level expended. Both bonuses can be applied only to an attack made before the beginning of the Ebon Phoenix Mage's next turn.

Rite of Walking (Ex): When a character becomes a Ebon Phoenix Mage, they participate in the Rite of Walking with the master who accepted them into the society. This rite takes 10 minutes, but requires nothing other than the presence of an Ebon Phoenix Master and a suitable candidate. On completion of the rite, the Ebon Phoenix Mage gains awareness of their previous lives. They now remember places visited, people known, and things done in lifetimes long past. They gain a +2 bonus on Knowledge checks, and can attempt a Knowledge check even if untrained in the appropriate Knowledge skill. They also gain a +2 bonus on saving throws against death effects and fear effects.

Mystic Phoenix Stance (Su): At 2nd level, the Ebon Phoenix Mage learns to channel the energy from one of their stances in a new way. While in a stance from any discipline the Ebon Phoenix Mage knows, they can forgo its normal benefit as a swift action to gain the effect of mystic phoenix stance. This ability lasts as long as they would maintain the stance, or as described below. They may also stop using mystic phoenix stance and resume gaining the normal benefit of the stance as a swift action.

While using this ability, the user's caster level when casting arcane spells increases by 1, and they gain a +2 dodge bonus to AC. In addition, when this ability is first activated, the user can choose to expend an arcane spell slot. If done, they also gain DR against all but good-aligned attacks as long as the stance is maintained. The value of the DR is equal to 2 x the level of the expended spell.

Empowering Strike (Su): Beginning at 4th level, when the Ebon Phoenix Mage successfully attacks an enemy with a martial strike, an arcane spell they cast before the end of their next turn is empowered (s by the Empowered Spell metamagic feat). Casting a spell empowered through this ability does not increase the effective level of the cast spell. Knowledge of the Empower Spell feat is not needed to use this ability. This ability is usable once per encounter.

Shadowbird Stance (Su): At 6th level, the Ebon Phoenix Mage learns another application for a stance known. While in a stance from any discipline known, the Ebon Phoenix Mage can forgo the stance's normal benefit as a swift action to gain the effect of the shadowbird stance. This ability lasts as long as the stance is maintained, or as described below. Switching back from the shadowbird stance to the normal benefits of the stance may be done as a swift action.

While this ability is active, the Ebon Phoenix Mage gains resistance to cold 10, and their caster level when casting any cold spell increases by 3. In addition, the user may choose to expend an arcane spell slot when activating this ability. If done, user gains an aura that deals 1d6 points of damage per spell level to any creature within 10 feet (Reflex half, DC 14 = key spellcasting ability modifier). Half of the damage dealt by the aura is cold, and the other half is negative energy. The aura deals damage each round at the beginning of the user's turn. Once this ability is activated, the aura lasts for 1 minute, after which time the effect ends and the normal effect of the stance resumes.

Ebon Phoenix Master (Su): Upon attaining 6th level, the character earns the title of Ebon Phoenix Master. They can now perform the Rite of Walking for someone else, provided they are a suitable candidate and embodies the reincarnated spirit of one of the ancient masters. (DM's decision for any NPCs.) Ebon Phoenix Masters gains the ability to sense the direction and distance to any Ebon Phoenix mage, master, or candidate simply by meditating for 1 minute without interruption.

Quickening Strike (Su): Starting at 8th level, when an Ebon Phoenix Mage successfully attacks an enemy with a martial strike, an arcane spell of 5th level or lower that the Ebon Phoenix Mage can cast before the end of your next turn is quickened (as by the Quickened Spell metamagic feat). Casting a spell that has been quickened by this ability does not increase the effective level of the affected spell. Knowledge of the Quicken Spell feat is not required to use this ability. This ability is usable once per encounter.

Shadow Immolation (Sp): At 10th level, once per week, the Ebon Phoenix Mage can perform the awesome Shadow Immolation. The Ebon Phoenix Mage explodes in a chilling blast of darkness that deals 20d6 points of damage in a 20-foot radius (Reflex half, DC 19 + key spellcasting ability modifier). Half the damage the blast deals is cold, and the other half is negative energy. Extraplanar creatures that fail their saves must immediately succeed on a Will save (same DC) or be dismissed to their native planes. This blast utterly destroys the Ebon Phoenix Mage, but 1d6 rounds later, they re-form in the exact spot where they were when they employed this ability. They are dazed for 1 round after they appear, but are healed of all damage (including ability drain or damage), blindness, deafness, disease, paralysis, or poison. Any equipment the Ebon Phoenix Mage was wearing or objects they were holding or carrying when they used this ability re-form with them, exactly as they were. This ability is the equivalent of a 9th-level spell.
