Animal Aspects

Animal Aspects
Each lycanthrope has an animal aspect. An animal aspect determines the base statistics of the lycanthrope in its animal form, such as natural attacks and movement speeds. Each animal aspect also has a level progression, where the lycanthrope advances in animal racial HD, similar to taking a class level, and gains more of their animal aspect's power.

Skills An animal HD provides 2 + Int modifier skills and grants Acrobatics, Climb, Fly, Perception, Stealth, and Swim as class skills.

Dire Wolf

The werewolf is perhaps the most common, and iconic, of lycanthropes. Like their animal aspect, werewolves tend to form into packs or tribes, which breed and propagate faster than other lycanthropes who live more solitary lives. Particularly powerful specimens (those with greater than 2HD) are often known as "greater werewolves" or "werewolf lords".

Aspect Features

  • Size Medium
  • Natural Attacks Wolves have a bite attack that deals damage based on their size (d4 for small, d6 for medium, or d8 for large).
  • Speed Wolves have a 50 ft. land speed.

Dire Wolf Progression

Hit Dice Base Attack Fortitude Reflex Will Natural Armor Qualities
1d8 +0 +2 +2 +0 +1 +2 Dexterity, +2 Constitution, Assume CR Adjustment, Trip
2d8 +1 +3 +3 +0 +2 +2 Strength, +2 Dexterity
3d8 +2 +3 +3 +1 +3 +2 Strength, Size Increase (Large)
4d8 +3 +4 +4 +1 +3 +2 Strength
5d8 +3 +4 +4 +1 +3 +2 Strength, +2 Constitution

Assume CR Adjustment (Ex): The 1st level of your animal progression erases the level adjustment for being a lycanthrope, effectively turning the template into a +0 template while the animal levels exist. If you later lose the animal levels (such as through retraining) the CR adjustment returns.

Natural Armor (Ex): A lycanthrope's natural armor bonus while in animal or hybrid form. This does not stack with natural armor possessed by the base creature (use whichever is higher).

Trip (Ex): Werewolves have the Trip special quality with their bite attacks.

Ability Increase (Ex): While in animal or hybrid form, the lycanthrope increases its ability scores as shown on the their progression. Multiple ability score increases to the same score are cumulative.

Size Increase (Ex): The lycanthrope's size increases to the specified size when in animal or hybrid form.
